A new charity championing mental health in construction
The Mindflow mission
Mindflow, founded by Causeway Technologies, is a charity championing mental health and bringing about positive change in the construction industry by harnessing the power of football. Our mission is to foster a culture within the construction industry where mental health is openly discussed, understood, and prioritised. We want to shape a construction industry where mental health is as fundamental as physical safety.

Mental health is the true health and safety crisis facing the construction industry today
Shockingly two people lose their lives to suicide every working day within the construction industry and the workforce are four times more likely to experience mental health issues than the general population. The industry is especially vulnerable due to factors like long irregular hours, many workers being self-employed, and high-pressure working environments. The statistics are truly heartbreaking and show no sign of slowing down.
We're joining the dots between construction, mental health and football
Research conducted on-site by Trevor Steven, Mindflow's CEO and ex-England and Everton football player, found that more than half (56%) of the 1,400 site workers surveyed were either currently experiencing or have experienced mental health problems. The survey also found that many workers in the industry (67%) are football fans.
Through his time on-site, Trevor quickly realised that while workers were initially hesitant to open up about their mental health, football was an effective conversation starter among construction site workers.
That’s why Mindflow is using football-powered outreach to connect with the workforce. By tapping into the power of the badge, we’re creating opportunities to talk about mental health, break down stigmas, and build a culture of support and early intervention. Find out about how below.

The Mindflow Charter
The Mindflow Charter will introduce a consistent, and measurable, standard for mental health provisions on site, set out by the local authority on publicly funded projects. As it stands, the level of mental health support for construction workers is left up to the contractor, whereas the Mindflow Charter will mean contractors have to meet set standards to secure the work.
Talk Football Talk Mental Health
Our unique ‘Talk Football Talk Mental Health’ programme will see current and ex-football players (Mindflow Ambassadors) visit construction sites to deliver mental health awareness sessions, spark real conversation, and recruit volunteers from each session to train as mental health first aiders.
