Mindflow exists to bring mental health to the heart of construction
We’re a charity tackling the mental health crisis in UK construction through a blend of on-site support, industry-wide advocacy, and the power of football.

Our mission
Poor mental health within the construction remains a silent crisis. There has been more than 7,000 deaths in the last decade alone due to suicide and mental health issues. Contributing factors include limited term contracts, living away from family, long hours, the ‘macho’ environment and an uncertain work pipeline.
Mindflow uses football as a vehicle to reach those workers who are struggling and are unable to speak up about it. Through our Talk Football, Talk Mental Health sessions - delivered on-site by former footballers - we aim to create an open, supportive culture by normalising mental health conversations, harnessing community connections and challenging stigma.

Why we started
During 2022 and 2023, our CEO Trevor Steven spoke to more than 1,400 construction site workers to understand their daily challenges first-hand. What he found was stark; 56% had experienced mental health struggles and many felt totally unsupported. Nearly three quarters of those he spoke to were football fans, so Trevor decided to make that connection and join the dots between football, mental health and construction.
Football is the foundation of our charity and all we do
After playing top-flight football for nearly 20 years, Trevor fully understands the ‘power of the badge’. Uniting communities and bringing people together to talk, football has a unique power to enthuse and engage, kicking off the conversation. At Mindflow, our growing team of football ambassadors lead on-site sessions using football as a universal language to spark meaningful conversations about mental health and to break down the stigma often associated.
